Visitors from Houten May 2013
Over the weekend of 3rd to 5th May, Trinity-Henleaze URC welcomed a group of friends from the Opstandingskerk, Houten in the Netherlands. Their Youth Choir of 24 and a group from the Church Congregation joined with us to share in a cross cultural Bible reading project, music and a growing friendship between the two churches.
This link began in 2007 when on pilgrimage to the isle of Iona, living in the Iona Community for a week, new friendships began. It was in a shared love of singing that the international relationship grew … with a visit in 2008 from Bristol to Houten when the choir's of the two churches gave a concert and shared a specially coordinated piece of music called "A Song of Love" made up of songs from the Iona Community reflecting the journey between Easter and Pentecost and the missionary calling of the church to share the love of God with the world. Since then a visit from Houten to Bristol, a shared pilgrimage to Iona by around 30 people and another music filled visit to Houten by people from Trinity-Henleaze last year … have grown and strengthened the friendship.
During this visit, their youth choir performed both in our church, and also at St Mary Redcliffe Church. We also enjoyed other shared events, including bible reading and Scottish dancing.
